Yesterday, the bill arrived for Comcast. We expected this month’s bill to still reflect things from before we cut out watching cable due to whatever reason, but no. It’s better than that. This month, we seem to owe nothing, and we have been credited $65. So…next month the bill should be $5 once that's subtracted, until this returns to the expected $70 in November, I suspect.

Odd, but nice for once.

Meanwhile, as I hunt for a new computer, I realized that just in case of any emergency that requires me to go—either due to being forced to travel out of state again, or not—it might be best to search for laptops. So I’ve been looking at the HP* Pavilion 17 inch sort, since that’s held up well for Dad. He hasn’t had any problems with his, since he got it in 2013.

And since I prefer Windows 7, I purchased an OEM for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, which should arrive sometime next week. I’ll use it once I have an appropriate laptop actually in my possession. I have also done in depth research of the Intel CPU, which one would allow an installation of 7 over 10, and which ones wouldn’t. I think I’ve figured that one out. I have far too many links gathered for all the steps to everything, so that’s what I’ve been doing this week! I also gathered all relating links to drivers that still support Windows 7 in either the CPU of Intel or AMD.

I also asked questions at Reddit, Seven Forums, Tom’s Hardware Forum, and Bleeping Computers so that I would have everything straight. As a side note, from one of those I gained the alternative of the Acer Aspire desktop, should other ideas not work. So that’s why I’ve been a bit quiet—research!

And on a non computer note, The Collinsport Historical Society has their round-up of everywhere that Dark Shadows can be found this Halloween season. If only I had Decades and TCM, I would be so happy on October 28th.

*We have a local place that works on all things HP, so if anything happens, straight to the manufacturer it can go.

...but the worst is that I accidentally keep "liking" posts even though my finger was nowhere near the "<3" button. And then I have to "un-like" things and then I fret about whether maybe people notice.

I'd just leave it, but in general I just don't favorite fic or text posts on Tumblr, nor gifsets or cute videos, just drawn artwork.

Missy This Fic over at [community profile] missy_fest was the smallest fest I ever modded or participated in - only four sign-ups! But it turned out to be totally worth it, and I'm sorely tempted to do it again next year because everything that came out of it was so fantastic.

This was the idea: remix a story by making it about Missy! Either by shifting the focus to her, or by just plain adding her to a story she didn't previously appear in. And every one of the resulting remixes took a very different approach.

I haven't had a chance to catch up on commenting (I hope to do so this weekend), but I'm utterly in love with the story that remixes one of mine, the amazing Further on up the road. ♥ ♥ ♥

Here's all of the fic, including my own (which, btw, is eminently guessable) - go check it out:

Dazzle and Mysteries (Jack Harkness/Jenny, Missy/Jenny (The Doctor's Daughter)) [Teen And Up]
Original story: Not Just Another Mystery by [personal profile] navaan
Summary: This planet presents more mysteries than Jenny expected, but not more than she can handle. And, of course, there is running.

Further on up the road (Owen Harper, Jack Harkness, Missy) [Teen And Up]
Original story: Centuries From Now by [personal profile] trobadora
Summary: When a Time Lord emerges from the Rift, it's the wrong one for Jack Harkness. But could Owen Harper be the right Doctor?

The Master's Faithful Companion (Forever or Just a Day Remix) (Missy/Lucy Saxon, The Master/Lucy Saxon) [Teen And Up]
Original story: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by [personal profile] selenak
Summary: Missy didn't plan to come to this moment in time, but she's reminded that she'd had her own puppy once.

Title: Repair Jobs (Here and Now Remix) (Missy & the Doctor's TARDIS; Ninth Doctor/Jack Harkness) [Teen And Up]
Original story: Repair Jobs by [personal profile] auroracloud
Summary: The TARDIS always goes where she needs to be. - Set during Empress of Mars. (TARDIS POV)

Never try to mean girl at a Slytherin.

I just need to find a good picture. Suggestions?

People keep making the mistake of thinking that just because I'm nice, I'm a pushover. Or gullible. Or both.

That is...beyond hilarious as a concept.

Fuck everyone today.

(Work issues, though I've run into the same idea outside of work, I suppose. I will elaborate when I'm not vaguebooking on a work computer on a work network.)

Not because I dislike the heat, because I unironically like 90+ degree hot, humid weather, but because it's given the ragweed fresh life. I'm sneezing non-stop.

Back in the trap.
I flew into Orlando last night, and now I'm in my mother's house. There's no damage I can find, other than plants. Today I'll put up the flagpole again and set the courtyard to rights and neaten up the mess we left in packing and rushing out and empty the freezer. I don't trust any meat left in there during the power outage, though the bags of ice we'd packed between things didn't melt. I'm a bit uncertain about the water -- there had been a boil water advisory for most of last week. Though it's been lifted, I don't know if I should flush water currently in the pipes and being run through the refrigerator for ice and cold water. I will have to find a market, as there's no fresh food or meat here I can eat. I might make a loaf of bread in the machine.

It was lovely to be away, though there's a huge difference between living somewhere and just visiting. It's hard for me to go back to some places as a tourist, now. I desperately want to move, to find a new home that I like or maybe can love again. I can hope.

The ocd is getting so much worse and I have an appointment tomorrow with the Adversarial Therapist, so that's going to go so great, so to focus on good things:

today when driving home, I saw someone on a bike, wearing a helmet that had a big triangle in LED lights on the back. And if that wasn't cool enough, that person then signalled a left turn, and a left turn arrow in orange showed on the back of the helmet, next to the red triangle. That was so cool.

There are times when I want to stop bicyclists and tell them how awesome their safety gear is. For this person, I wanted to throw a party to tell them how awesome their safety gear is.

Now if we could just get better bike lanes and such.
